This week's In Depth cigar review features a hard to find cigar, if you happen to live in Canada. I was fortunate enough to be gifted sample cigars from a fellow BOTL living in the USA. The cigar in question is none other then the Gurkha Ghost. Featuring a beautiful holographic band and using great tobacco throughout, I was very excited to smoke this cigar to say the least. The "Gurkha Ghost" line was revealed at the IPCPR 2012, and had already recieved an almost cult-like following. The Ghost is available in several vitola's inclusing the Shadow (5x52), Angel (6x52), Exorcist (6x60) and the Asura (6x54).
When examining the dark chocolate coloured cigar, I noticed a faint tooth with a visible oil sheen and one or two medium-large sized veins. The pre lit aroma consisted of a wonderful floral and spicy tobacco note. After cutting and lighting the cigar with no issues, I took my initial puffs which revealed a perfect draw that was providing ample amounts of medium to full bodied smoke. The first third of the cigar provided flavours of an incredibly smooth tobacco core with notes of cedar on the draw with notes of a spicy tobacco sweetness on the finish. The ash was a bright white colour and held on for the entire first half of the cigar. The second third produced flavours of leather and wood on the draw with the finish consisting of the same flavours of leather with an added sweet and creamy coffee note. The foot smoke smelled wonderful with a floral and musk note that was very pleasant. Reaching the final third, core tobacco flavours with notes of leather and cedar on the draw pleased my palate with the finish consisting of pepper and leathery cedar notes. Through out the entire cigar I could not help but notice the aged tobacco smoothness which was present while smoking.
The Gurkha Ghost suprised me in several ways, with its aged tobacco qualities and its overall wonderful blend, I would not hesitate to smoke it again or even make a box purchase. The complex flavour profile pleased my palate and left me wanting more. If you ever get the chance to smoke the Gurkha Ghost, make sure you eat something before smoking if you are not used to a full strength cigar. Aside from that, pick up a couple and let me know what you think! As always, Stay Toasting!
